If you are interested in chaperoning, please let Mrs. Webb know. We will provide a sack lunch, and entry to the museum is free. However, we will be participating in an activity at the museum that costs $1. Please send this amount with your student before the trip.

Parenting Corner

From Mr. Nix

As we continue to explore and develop new ways of communicating with our teens let’s turn our attention to two very important, though somewhat opposite avenues of interaction. Here are a few thoughts for your consideration regarding the power of praise and the destructive power of anger.

First, give praise. Parents tend to praise children more when they are younger, but adolescents need the self-esteem boost just as much. Teenagers might act like they’re too cool to care about what their parents think, but the truth is they still want your approval. And looking for opportunities to be positive and encouraging is good for the relationship, especially when it is feeling strained.

Always remember: control your emotions. It’s easy for your temper to flare when your teen is being rude, but don’t respond in kind. Remember that you’re the adult and they are less able to control their emotions or think logically when they’re upset. Count to ten or take some deep breaths before responding. If you’re both too upset to talk, hit pause until you’ve had a chance to calm down.

The scripture tells us that “life and death are in the power of the tongue.” Our words are powerful tools that can help propel our teens to great heights or can cripple our children, sometimes for a lifetime.

A Prayer: Father give us wisdom and spiritual sight so that we can partner with You in launching our teens to their full purpose and destiny. Amen.oped relationships as your teen moves into their adult life. Keep working at this day by day. You are doing better than you think
